when is trouble too much trouble ?
Skaterina has long wanted to avoid Unca Fred syndrome
stop doing things one likes bc it is "too much trouble"
the new summer pants, white linen, full leg, from JJill catalog, xs, are too long
why not order petite now that she has shrunk ?
she is not sure what part of the trousers would be "shortened" to make them
petite
the pant leg ?
or the waist to crotch length ?
when she ordered a petite size dress it was too "shortwaisted"
the top of the dress had been shortened rather than the skirt
it was uncomfy
if anything Skaterina doesnt want in her clothing is uncomfyness
clothes must fit right (great aunt Maudie said so!)
be infinitely capable of any activity in which she wants to indulge
like, fr'instance, improvisational acting in the Workshop
death to having your clothes inhibit you !
they must be wearable, comfortable, and suitable for letting it all hang out
(if need be / smile)
Skaterina ponders the problem
sending back for petite : NO
sending to good friend in Chicago for hemming : NO
sewing machine ?
clear sewing table after clearing a place to put the stuff cleared from the sewing
table
clear the areas where the two different sewing machines live
the Lotus portable is on a shelf, she is so old she needed a separate bobbin
winder
great aunt Maudie's old Singer is in a box, nicely packed away, is fairly
available
uh
machine sewing will require ironing board and iron
ironing board in back room / check
iron ruined by neglect / check / not usable
travel iron she used at 16 when grandpa Pete took her to California
check
she blew out the lights in the St Francis with that little fold up iron !
it still works !
or
she can hem them up by hand !
the cuffs have already been folded over (twice)
clearly this is not the way great aunt Maudie wd do it
in another realm of existence Skaterina would not do it either
she was, in fact, an accomplished dressmaker
both by hand and by machine
she has made everything you can make including a motorcycle seat cover
she impressed and amazed her MIL (the budding actor's mom) with her
mastery of the sewing needle
MIL bought the new (and first) granddaughter a smocked dress at Bonwits'
(fancy clothing store)
Skaterina immediately made several dresses that were smocked
which she learned how to do with the pattern directions
MIL later told Skaterina that she was afraid of ther
oh she confessed that in the company of her best friend
for moral support
they were ladies who had servants for domesticities !
MIL was good at playing golf
Skaterina didnt know how you cd go through life without learning how to do
EVERYTHING !
just in case, Skaterina learned to play golf too
