the wayback machine #1 and #2
the grandson's first girlfriend emails Skaterina
how are you doing ? she asks
smile
he and she had a volatile teenage romance
Skaterina thought each of them cd "do better"
KnitterMe asked EM if she would like to learn to weave
EM said, no, thanks
after graduation EM changed her mind
i want to weave Just Like You (uh oh)
KnitterMe set her up with a pile of skeins of embroidery thread
all the colors !!
the little skeins are 6 yards long of six ply threads
you can imagine this is a tricky business and, as far as she knows.
is never ever done by anyone but KnitterMe
she used these warp threads to weave little bags called Courage Button bags
she showed EM how to thread the reed, then the heddles, then wind on
enough to tie on to the back beam
wind on completely then tie on to the apron beam in front where the weaver sits
sound complicated ? you bet
it is easy when you know how
meantime perseverance furthers plus walloping amounts of patience
EM got started while KnitterMe went off to the ice rink where she cd be
Skaterina for awhile
when she returned and turned back into KnitterMe she was elated and thrilled
pleased beyond belief to see that EM had the loom pretty much ready to go
it should be duly noted that she had witnessed a lot of dressing the loom (a
floor loom) and weaving when the kids were still in high school
EM's first lesson was an Ordeal / a test of character and endurance
our theme of the day
EM had passed with colors flying
she went on to make little Courage Button bags and bigger ones too
KnitterMe still has one woven of strips of cloth, lined in flannel with interior
pockets / all pretty much in the style of KnitterMe
who not only did not mind being "copied" but was immensely happy about it
then EM asked if it was possible to weave two bags (or two scarves)
side by side at the same time
YES shouted KnitterMe with excitement
she had thought of this many times but had yet do it
EM did it !
this is how a student can make a teacher beside herself with joy
p.s
KnitterMe never thought of herself as a "teacher" but as a "learner"
I can show you how to learn by showing you the basic techniques
then i will show you what is possible by what i make for myself
so, yes, it was kind of nice to have an email from the young lady, one of
KnitterMe's most accomplished pupils
#2 / we will tell about Jlle, a spinner, weaver, knitter,
whose horizons were
expanded when she saw
KnitterMe's improvisational style of weaving
she was inspired to emulate KnitterMe
did so in both spinning and weaving
then brought things to the Xmas faire
was scared and nervous that KnitterMe might be mad
Mad ?
r u kidney me ?
Jlle was the first one to really SEE what KnitteMe was up to
Jlle took it and ran with it
KM bought one of Jlles scarves
it lives on the wheeled throne that GS made for her
oh we are so happy today with the Opening UP of the WayBack Machine !
we want every day to be a happy day no matter what its name is
