KnitterMe rants on knitting socks

KnitterMe learned herself how to knit socks when she was 14

when she was 8 yrs old she used a booklet called HOW  TO

the booklet showed How To knit and crochet in simple little drawings

they must have been good and simple and smart too for KnitterMe learned well and never forgot

when she was fourteen it was 1947

knitted socks were called gusset socks / they were knitted in the round using double pointed needles that were shorter than the usual straight needles

it was a mite tricky learning to use double points / now known as dpn's

but she learned, yes she did

and went on to knit argyle socks for various boyfriends

~~~~~
now we are all growed up
so is knitting
there are now circular needles that can be used in a Magic Loop so you dont have to use dpn's which cause a lot of terror for knitters who are not so handy at manipulating them
and there are kinitters who were born late in KnitterMe's life who didnt like some of the tricky bits with gusset socks and dpns
these new knitters created all kinds of new kinds of heels to replace the simple turning of the heel that was in the gusset sock
this must all seem like greek to a non.knitter, yes ?
well, it is greek to KnitterMe too
she just doesnt understand how knitters can complain about having to pick up stitches along the gusset of the gusset sock
sure it is a technique that requires some attention to detail
but gee whiz
all of knitting is about Picking Up Stitches !
that is how knitting works !
