Conflicts of Interest
the first publication Skaterina saw when she began her research into cancer was an audio book from the Coalition of Cancer Survivors
the first thing she learned was that she was already a survivor, well, not just because she had cervical cancer in 03
the Coalition says if you have cancer and are dealing with it you are already a survivor
negative comments are not allowed
the next crucial bit was about coping with friends and family who all have plenty of opinions, notions, automatic responses, thoughtless remarks and their own personal experiences with cancer or know someone with cancer who isnt you
it was readily obvious that it was hard for family and friends to grasp the idea that your cancer was really about you and not them !
our town does not have an oncologist or even an ear, nose, and throat specialist
this meant choosing to travel to another town usually across the uninhabital wastes of the south east Utah for at least and often more than 100 miles
surprise !
they had their own desires about where to go and since they were going to do the driving it was necessary to consider their needs
Quickly it was decided that in this case / ie Skaterina's lumps / the needs of others could just go and take a flying leap
if Skaterina chose to go to the town not of their choosing (oh, there is nowhere to eat there or shop !) they had to learn to "lump it" / heh
she also learned from the audio book that not all cancers are emergencies
this meant you could take some time to do research and figure things out
it also meant that KnitterMe had time to finish the red sweater she had begun at the same time as the Chance Encounter with the Cheezit crumb
the red sweater would become Skaterina's invincible armor
