one of the first times she came home (to Rome)

she brought a sweater she had knitted

a striped sweater

the front, the back, the two long sleeves

were all knitted with the same kind of yarn and the same colors

but

NONE OF THE STRIPES MATCHED

KnitterMe wanted to run out of the flat,

down Via Salaria to Villa Borghese

run around the Park in Unbridled Joy

just like Juanita does when

she is deleriously happy

KnitterMe was released from the ties that bind

she was free to be

i didnt know you cd do that she thought

as she gazed with admiration

at the "offending stripes"

she thinks she knows how Jlle felt

when she saw KnitterMe's improvaho weaving

with its clashing colors, textures, insouciant dangles and fringes,

exaggerated lengths, bold choices of everything !

a devil may care tossing out of all the tired weaving rules

i didnt know you cd do that, Jlle must have thought

then went home and did it her way with gusto
