close call
almost committed sewerpipes with the little blue pills !
ready to call the hospice folks
glad she had on her new nightie
instead of her raggedy sleeping clothes !
then she heard laughter !
it came from the Goddess post !
Skaterina remembers the audition but not the details
she was waiting to be called / it was a long wait
the actor husband was prowling around on all fours
doing his caged lion act
a technique he had learned at the Bergdorf studio
bc she didnt want to see how the others were reacting
or whether he was also groweling and pawing them
Skaterina opened her purse to clean it out
she regularly did this while waiting for something
like on line at the bank
the scrap of paper he referred to was prolly a shopping list
when they were finally called she had a neat and tidy purse
and was ready to turn herself into a young Marilyn Monroe
(giggle / she cdnt have been more of a contrast to the lovely MM
all her life she was the typical All.American whatver :
student college girl young wife and mother)
what she didnt realize until later was that she had utilized one of
Uta Hagen's acting techniques
just before "going on" do something particularly personal to you
in Uta's case she cleaned her fingernails
Skaterina's cleaning out her purse was, of course, intensely personal
in this way it established her own reality
well. it worked
the director and producer liked what she did in the audition and asked
the actor who she was
my wife, he said
laughter
ha ha
but they werent auditioning a woman's part
those were the days when the acting world was all agog over
The Method
and the Actor's Studio
which taught The Method
which was the Russian director, Stanislavski's contribution
to realism in the theatre and consequently the movies
Marlon Brando was an early example of The Method
soon actresses like Marilyn Monroe were signing up at
The Studio for learning how to be "real" in an unreal world
there
that's the rest of the story
