catching up
today Skaterina ate peaches from her tree
they were put in the freezer and now they are free !
once upon a time Skaterina went skiiing with some old pals
with the family daughter they met up in Davos, Switzerland, for the first
Alp on the journey
Skaterina broke her leg on the beginners slope
which was actually about half way up the Alp
not at all like a little bunny hill / it was steep
what made it the beginners slope was all the beginners !
Skaterina fell down so much that the family daughter was glad she had broken her leg or she might have slid all the way to town
so, cast on her leg, they went on to Kitzbuehl, Austria
they drove over from Davos so they stopped in Lichenstein for lunch !
liver dumpling soup / oh my
In Kitzbuehl she stumped around on the cast and a cane
she took the tram and went up the Alp to where the skiing took place
there was a cafe
the skiers cd eat without leaving the slopes
since it was kinda far up there / and, you know, steep
Skaterina noticed plates of food that she cdnt identify / she didnt speak much german either
Was is das ? was all she cd manage / didnt understand the answer at all
the plates looked piled high with some kind of noodle
this was the most popular meal for the skiers
years go by
she never forgot those plates of Was Is das ?
when she opened a restaurant
she bought some Time.LIfe cookbooks
each book was a different country's cuisine
in the book of Austria she discovered Kaiser Schmarm
she was an inveterate recipe reader
(and we know there are some spelling checks to be done here)
Kaiser Schmarm was Ruined Pancakes
you know how when you make crepes the first one or two arent so gorgeous ?
put them aside
then when you want to make Kaiser Schmarm you saute some apples, raisins, brown sugar or other sweet, add the ruined crepes which you tear into pieces
today Caterina cut the crepes she made the other day / she cut them in strips like fettuccine and added them to the peaches which were warming in butter
little maple syrup
wonderful breakie on a snowy day
will be back soon with Spell Check
