coddlers are small porcelain cups with lids that are fixed on tight enough to not let water leak in when the coddler is doing the actual coddling

coddling is immersing the coddlers up to tops in boiling water

some lids screw on

usually the cup is ceramic or porcelain

the lid some kind of metal that can have screwpossibilitease

it is must withstand boiling water temperature

the olde English ones have paintings on them or flowers

Skaterina likes soft boiled eggs but she truly favors a freshly coddled egg

why ?

they are as hot as they are gonna get and do not cool off during transit to the one who will eat it

the soft boiled egg is lifted from the hot water put in a cup carried to the table knocked about with a spoon or knife to take the lid off / the egg is cooling off during all this rumpus

but

open the coddler and dip in your spoon

oooo that's hot

sometimes she puts crispy buttered toast cubes in the bottom

Skaterina spent a day or two in a relentless google search for clear glass coddlers / she found them !

apparently they are rare

the ones she found have clear glass lids that fit snugly, held in place with a metal sort of thingamabob

this thing......bob works great / holds the lid on really tight

the cups go under water / just the metal ......bob is showing

and GET THIS : Skaterina can pick up the metal thingbob with her bare fingers

this metal thingbob does not get HOT

what the heck is it ?
