Being Normal
Skaterina had cervical cancer a few years ago / actually 9 years ago / she took that opportunity to have her old Dodge Dart, DreamBoat, restored
DreamBoat provided a nice distraction
she is a 1965 station wagon in Pacific Blue with a Creamy White top and shiny chromium luggage rack / where, you know, if she were a surfer car the board would go on top
Skaterina and DreamBoat both survived the year / DreamBoat was in the vintage car show our town holds every year / she was a big hit
DreamBoat was Skaterina's gypsy wagon back in the day when Skaterina hadnt become a grandmother yet / they tootled around between Topanga and Moab (Utah) and up and down the California coast / bed in the back along with spinning wheel, baskets of yarn, and often some dogs and cats / one time there were also angora rabbits
at the moment while Skaterina contemplates possible treatments for the new bout of cancer DreamBoat sits in Mrs Foley's carport waiting also for her transmission leak to be taken care of
once more Skaterina and DreamBoat will share being restored
On Being Normal Skaterina remembers that during the diagnostic period of her prior round with cancer she functioned as she normally did / it was only after the hysterectomy that she was kind of out of it and needed help to get through the day
therefore she reminds her family, especially her beloved grandson, that she is not sick / she just has cancer / she need not be treated like an invalid / she will continue her usual routines
she wil do her Tibetan Rites
she will knit
she will complete the Invincible Red Sweater
knit some hats
make Meyer Lemon marmalade
continue to have fun with Juanita who makes her laugh
she will continue to be Alive and Kicking
